Detailed itinerary
Day 1 of the 4 days Bwindi gorilla trekking and Lake Bunyonyi safari
Pick up and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park, on the first day of the 4 days Bwindi gorilla trekking and Lake Bunyonyi safari, you will be welcomed by our representative at the airport, who will brief you about the safari and then transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park in south western Uganda. On the way you will have a stopover at the Equator to take photos, buy souvenirs and another stopover for lunch in Mbarara town. After lunch you will proceed the journey with great views of Kigezi hills, terraced farmlands, local people, beautiful scenery among others. Upon arrival you will check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park
Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 4 days Bwindi gorilla trekking and Lake Bunyonyi safari you will carry your lunch box and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and guidelines of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a habituated gorilla family to trek and an experienced park guide who will lead you during trekking. Trekking of the mountain gorillas in the park starts at 8:00am and takes about 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on where the gorillas are located, during trekking you will be able to spot other primates like l’hoest monkeys, chimpanzees, red tailed monkeys, different plant species, birds among others. once the gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural environment which helps you to learn more about their lifestyle, behaviors, watch them carry out their activities like feeding, breastfeeding, take photos with a flash less camera and record the moments to show people back home. After the one hour with the gentle giants, you will trek back to the starting point where you will meet your driver guide and transfer to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for canoeing and community tour
After breakfast on the third day of the 4 days Bwindi gorilla trekking and Lake Bunyonyi safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale. Lake Bunyonyi is the deepest fresh water lake in Uganda, second deepest in Africa after Tanganyika and its known for harboring 29 islands such as the punishment island where girls who got pregnant out of wedlock were taken to die. The journey takes about 4 hours drive and upon arrival you will go for canoeing activity where you will paddle along the lake shores in a dugout canoe where you will have views of beautiful scenery, animals like antelopes, zebras along the shores, water birds like hornbills, African kingfisher, black herons, cormorants, malachite kingfisher, interact with the local people on the islands among others. After canoeing you will drive to the lodge for lunch.
Community tour, after lunch you will go for a community tour where you will visit the Batwa and Bakiga communities that live around the lake. During the community tour you will be able to interact with the local people which gives you an opportunity to learn about their culture, tradition, visit their farmlands, homesteads, taste their traditional dishes, listen to ancient stories, enjoy their traditional entertainments among others. After the community tour you will return to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Departure to Kampala
On the last day of the 4 days Bwindi gorilla trekking and Lake Bunyonyi safari, you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kampala. On the way you will have en-route lunch at Igongo cultural centre and then continue the journey reaching Kampala early evening, upon arrival you will be dropped off at Entebbe international airport for your departure flight or drop off at the hotel.
