During the safari you will be able to engage in Bigodi swamp walk and chimpanzee trekking activity where you will get an opportunity to spend time with the chimpanzees in their natural habitat.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Kibale national park

Depending on your arrival time on the first day of the 3 days chimpanzee trekking safari in Kibale national park, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Kibale national park in western part of Uganda. On the way you will have a stopover at the Equator in Kayabwe to take pictures, buy souvenirs and then continue the journey with another stopover in Mbarara town for lunch.  After lunch you will proceed the journey to the park which will be filled with spectacular views of beautiful scenery, landscape, tea plantations, crater lakes, Rwenzori mountain ranges among others and upon arrival you will check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk

Chimpanzee trekking, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 3 days chimpanzee trekking safari in Kibale national park you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kanyachu park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a habituated chimpanzee family to trek and a park guide who will lead you into the forest during trekking.

Chimpanzee trekking starts at around 8:00am and takes 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where the chimpanzees are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will have views of other primates species such as black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, views of different tree species, birds among others. When the chimpanzees are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to observe their behaviors, lifestyle, watch them feeding, playing, fighting, hunting, resting, take pictures and record the incredible moments to show people back home. After the one hour encounter with the chimpanzees, you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the lodge for lunch.

Bigodi swamp walk, after lunch you will go for an interesting nature walk in Bigodi sanctuary where you will have great views of different bird species such as the great blue turaco, views primates like grey cheeked mangabey, vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys, view different plant and tree species, beautiful butterflies, feel the cool breeze, relax your mind among others. After the Bigodi swamp walk you will drive back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Departure to Kampala

On the last day of the 3 days chimpanzee trekking safari in Kibale national park, you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kampala. You will have en-route lunch on the way and reach Kampala early evening where you will be dropped at Entebbe airport in case you have a flight to catch or drop off at the hotel depending on your schedule.
