Akagera national park is a protected area in Eastern Rwanda covering 1,22km2 (433 sq. mi) long the international border with Tanzania, it was founded in 1934, and it includes savannah, montane and swamp habitats. The park is named Akagera for the Kagera River which flows along its eastern boundary feeding into Lake Ihema and several smaller lakes, the complex system of the lakes and linking papyrus swamps makes up over a third of the park, which is the largest protected wetland in Eastern-Central Africa.

By Road transport.
You can drive from Kigali through Rwamagana town to Akagera national park the entrance is only through southern gate. Northern gate is currently as the exit gate The journey takes you a total of about 2 hours or 2 and a half hours to arrive at the park entrance. The distance from Kigali to the park is 120km/75mi.
By Air transport.
Air transport to the AKagera National Park is that there are no domestic flights to Akagera, but Akagera Aviation offers the charter helicopter transfers to anywhere in the country. The flight from Kigali to Akagera National Park takes 22 minutes.
