The Uganda equator : The equator is one of the landmarks that tourists visiting the country like to go to during their trips to the destinations Uganda. At the equator, tourists like to take photos and stand on the northern and southern hemispheres and also visit the craft shops around the equator where local arts and crafts are displayed for sale such as drums, clothing among other items.
The water experiment is also done at the equator and this experiment shows how water runs differently in the northern hemisphere and in the southern hemisphere. This demonstration is scientifically known as the Coriolis effect. In Entebbe, the equator crosses on Lake Victoria and part of the lake is in the northern hemisphere. The equator is a place for many tourists to stop and take photos and a short time is spent at the equator.
At Kayabwe, tourists going to the western part of Uganda make a stop at the equator here. The equator in this part of the country is found along the Kampala-Masaka highway and it is about 70 kilometers from Kampala.
The equator via Queen Elizabeth national park crosses Kasese and it can be visited after a Uganda wildlife safari around the national park which is home to a variety of wildlife species such as elephants, lions, buffalos, waterbucks, hippos, antelopes among others.
Traveling to the destinations in the western part of Uganda such as Queen Elizabeth national park, Bwindi national park, Lake Mburo national park among others is among the ways that tourists can enjoy an experience at the equator before or after their safari.
Itineraries that include these destinations include stops by the equator making it a more fun experience while visiting Uganda. Craft shopping involves buying items made by the locals such as jewelry like beaded necklaces, earrings as well as paintings and sculptures. Money got from selling these items greatly benefits the people in the local community.
At the equator in Uganda, the sun rises and falls at a shorter interval as compared to other places that are not crossed. It is also stated that at the equator weight reduces by 0.5 % and after leaving the equator the weight goes back to normal.
On the way to western Uganda when stopping by the equator, there are also restaurants around that serve local dishes and this also makes it a good place to stop for lunch before continuing your journey to the next destination.
The equator crosses 13 countries including Uganda, Kenya, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Sao Tome & Principe, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, Maldives, Indonesia and Kiribati.
In Uganda the equator at Kayabwe can be accessed by diving via Kampala, Mbarara, Masaka highway using both private or public means of transport. And visiting the equator when in Uganda can be done at anytime of the year although sometimes many tourists can be found at the equator taking photos and around the craft shops.
